Resources For Children
Below are a few resources focusing on children who have experienced trauma. These books can be purchased online at the through various sources. They could be used as a tool to help support a particular child who needs further support and compassion from those around them, by foster families to help educate people involved in a child's life or by educators to teach staff and students how to better understand what traumatised children face on a daily basis.
"HEART FELT" written by the Australian Childhood Foundation- Protecting Children. This book discusses and raises awareness of child abuse. It contains a compilation of images created by children and young people who have faced trauma and abuse. Many of the drawings in this collection are disturbing and distressing. There are also drawings that show the strength, courage and adaptability of children as they recover from the devastating impact of violence. These are drawings that can inspire hope in all of us. "HOME AWAY FROM HOME" written by the Australian Childhood Foundation. This resource is designed for use with children new to or currently living in statutory Out Of Home Care. The book contains stories about living in foster care and will assist people in supporting children who have been through the trauma of being abused or neglected, removed from family and coping with new environments. "TEAR SOUP- A Recipe For Healing After Loss" written by Pat Schwiebert & Chuck DeKlyen is a family story book that centers around an old and somewhat wise woman, Grandy. Grandy has just suffered a big loss in her life and so she is headed to the kitchen to make a special batch of Tear Soup. To season her soup Grandy adds memories like the good times and the bad times, the silly and the sad times. She does not want to forget even one precious memory of her loss.
