Our local area is filled with a huge variety of educational services to assist teachers, schools, case workers, counsellors and families when reaching out to the community for additional educational support. This includes courses available for disengaged students, long term courses targeting specific interests and short term courses / workshops for schools. Alternative Education Options
ALESCO Senior College
Alesco Senior College is a secondary school, set within an adult learning environment. It is a school which encourages young people to participate in education and training that leads to a sustainable future. It offers students the opportunity to complete their Higher School Certificate in a supportive environment which focuses on programs to meet individual students learning needs.
Alesco Senior College offers a small Year 10 preparation program for selected students who are ready to work in an environment that offers individual support, personalised planning and a possible pathway into further Vocational Training.
Alesco also has the FLEX program for students looking for success but who need a little bit more flexibility. Graduates of Alesco Senior College will most likely move onto further vocational training or sustainable employment. Some of our students who have an identified and targeted vocational pathway may pursue a future in tertiary education or University.

WEA Hunter in collaboration with the Department of Education and Communities Secondary and Central Schools is working to support young people who are experiencing barriers to participating in mainstream education as well as young people who have left school before completing their HSC. Our aim is to provide disengaged young people aged 15 – 24 years with learning opportunities and support services to assist in re-engaging with school, training or transition into employment.
ReCharge operates in Newcastle and InCharge is based in Raymond Terrace. Both programs offer smaller class sizes, made up of a combined group of early school leavers and students from local partner high schools. Our programs are designed to get our students up and going again by setting goals and providing support to develop a pathway plan in an adult learning context.
Links to Learning is a blend of life skills and accredited training. The accredited training includes Statements of Attainment in:
